Vitamin E – Good for preventing aging and boosting immune function
What is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E can be best described as a fat-soluble oxidant that inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species formed when fat undergoes the process of oxidation. In other words, Vitamin E can be classified as the collective name for a number of fat-soluble compounds with distinctive antioxidant characteristics.
It plays an important role in the human body due to its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation and immune enhancement. It also prevents aging by protecting cell constituents from the damaging effects of free radicals to a considerable extent and is thus a favorite among celebrities and others. It is believed that higher intakes of this vitamin can lead to reduced incidence of breast and prostate cancers but this fact is not yet medically confirmed. It is even believed that intake of Vitamin E improves skin texture and quality.
It is important to note that Vitamin E is available in eight forms (naturally): (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol).
