Is Your Child Suffering from ADHD?
ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is considered to be one of the most common of all childhood problems. It can continue to remain in a child through adolescence and adulthood. If left untreated, it can reduce your child’s ability to concentrate, poor level of confidence and esteem, and even result in low educational results. Therefore, you as a parent need to act without any delays even if your perception is just a perception.
Children with ADHD are more inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive than normal children. All children show these traits but children in ADHD face severe issues.
In order to be diagnosed with the Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a child must have the symptoms for six or more months and the symptoms must be more than that of the normal children.
Causes of ADHD:
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD can be caused due to genetic factors. Studies are being conducted to found out if nutrition, brain injuries, social environment, and other environmental factors contribute to the growth of ADHD.
Symptoms of ADHD:
The symptoms of ADHD can be seen in a child in his early life, often between the ages of 3 and 6. Diagnosis of ADHD can be a very difficult process as each one of us is different in his own ways and his brain/body may react to one circumstance in a different way than what is performed by another body/brain. Only a licensed health professional (pediatrician or mental health specialist) after studying a child for a considerable period of time can diagnosis the child for ADHD.
Treatment for ADHD:
The present-day treatment options merely focus on minimizing the ADHD symptoms and for enhancing performance of body functions. The options may include medication, education, training, meditation, psychotherapy, or a combination of two or more treatment methods.
It is important to note here that there might be a possibility that your child may be suffering from multiple disorders such as oppositional defiant order, conduct disorder, bipolar disorder, Tourette syndrome, and learning disabilities along with ADHD. It, therefore, becomes all important for you to immediately seek medical intervention for your child else his future growth and development can be a big cause of concern for you.
However, a combination of motivation, patience, perseverance, qualified medical advice, affection, medication, and equal opportunities can help your child fight against ADHD and lead a normal life once again.
