Artificial Human Brain possible in next ten years
There is nothing that can be termed as impossible in the world of medical sciences. If you doubt that, you will be surprised to know that a functioning artificial brain is expected to be created within a decade as per claims of scientists.
Henry Makram, director of the Blue Brain Project, has already been responsible for stimulation of elements of a rat brain and a synthetic human brain can be developed in him in a span of next 10 years. The synthetic brain can be used to develop effective treatments for mental illness cases.
From Dailymail.co.uk:
Henry Makram, director of the Blue Brain Project, has already simulated elements of a rat brain.
He told the TED Global conference in Oxford he is well on his way to developing a synthetic human brain, which could be used to develop treatments for mental illnesses.
‘It is not impossible to build a human brain. We can do it in 10 years,’ he told the conference.
‘And if we do succeed, we will send a hologram to TED to talk.’
Mr Makram believes his research could eventually help the two billion people globally who suffer from brain impairment.
His research group, which launched in 2005, aims to engineer a computer simulation of a brain from laboratory data.
The project has already created an artificial neocortical column which is unique to mammals. We have many of these columns to cope with complex cognitive functions including parenthood and social interactions.
If this dream project comes true, many doors offering new treatment methodologies will soon come up for benefit of the mankind.
Now all eyes are on Henry Makram and only time will tell if he can actually live up to the expectations and till then, it is all about hopes for a better future.
