Temporomandibular Joint Treatment-Where To Seek Best Advice

Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders, commonly called “TMJ,” refer to a group of health conditions that lead to pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and the muscles controlling movement of the jaw. The name is derived from the two bones that form the joint: the upper temporal bone which is part of the cranium (skull), and the lower jaw bone called the mandible.

There are six main components of the TMJ.

  1. Mandibular condyles
  2. Articular surface of the temporal bone
  3. Capsule
  4. Articular disc
  5. Ligaments
  6. Lateral pterygoid

These disorders are usually placed into three categories:

  1. Internal derangement of the joint that involves a displaced disc, dislocated jaw, or an injury to the condyle
  2. Myofascial pain involves discomfort or pain in the muscles controlling jaw function.
  3. Arthritis — a group of degenerative/inflammatory joint disorders that can affect the temporomandibular joint.

It is important to note that a person may experience one or more of these conditions at the same time and there may be instances wherein a person experience other health troubles that co-exist with Temporomandibular joint disorders, like chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disturbances, or fibromyalgia.

If you have been experiencing any or some of these signs of Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders, it is important for you to urgently seek professional advice and the best way to do is to make a quick search online for “TMJ Tucson” or “TMJ treatment.”

You can alternatively search for some of the best orthodontists by searching for “Dr. Jaw“. By doing this, you can easily access the website of a specialist of the jaws and teeth who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tooth, jaw and facial irregularities.

You can even visit a good orthodontist site like Drjaw.net to contact the orthodontist directly and without wasting any time.
