All about High blood pressure
High blood pressure or hypertension is the measurement of how the blood flows multiplied by the resistance of the vessels. It is normal that your blood pressure goes high when you are stressed, anxious or exert yourself. But if it is consistently high than it is a serious situation that is extremely fatal to the body as it strains the heart by making it work harder than normal, which eventually causes the arteries harden leading to heart diseases, strokes, damaged blood vessels, and kidney failures.
Normally people think that those with high BP are tense, nervous or hyperactive, but hypertension has nothing to do with personality behaviors as emotional tension and stress can be only temporary reasons that can raise blood pressure. Blood pressure measuring below 120/80 is consider as normal blood pressure; blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called “pre-hypertension”, and a blood pressure of 140/90 or higher than this is considered as high.
Blood pressure has a tendency to rise with age. This can be controlled by following a healthy lifestyle, Balanced diet. For this, we need to limit our sodium, alcohol, and caffeine intake that can raise the blood pressure level. Do not smoke cigarettes or use any tobacco product. Exercise regularly, do relaxation techniques, meditations, and lose weight if you are overweight. Follow a healthy diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables and is low in fat.
Many different types of antihypertensive medicines can be used to treat high blood pressure. But you need to consult your doctor before having them as they can have side effects, so follow the treatment plan that your doctor prescribes.
