All about Bed Wetting

Bedwetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis, is not a mental or behavior problem and can be best described as a problem that not only affects small children but also teenagers and even adults. Let us find out what are the common causes of bed wetting to create a clear understanding about this habit.
Causes of bedwetting:
Many children suffer from this habit up to the age of three due to the slow progress of bladder function control and night-time urine creation.
Some of the causes of bed-wetting include the following:
1. Hereditary factors
2. As most of the children are sound sleepers they face difficulties waking up from sleep and end up urinating in the bed
3. Any kind of stress
4. When the growth of the central nervous system is slower than normal
5. Hormonal factors if the production of hormone known as antidiuretic is lower than normal.
6. Urinary area infections
7. If the bladder is smaller and can hold less of urine.
8. Treatments for bed wetting:
9. Limit fluids before bedtime.
10. Ask your child go to the bathroom at the beginning of the bedtime routine and then again right before going to sleep.
11. Motivate the child by giving reward for dry nights.
12. Asking your child to change the bed sheets when he or she gets wet.
13. If necessary teach your child bladder awareness exercises, which include education to resist the instant urge to urinate, and stopping and starting the urine flow midstream.
Don’t blame the child or punish them, have patience. Motivate your child by providing emotional support and reassurance and this would help him feel better until this habit stops.
